Rock Coral Canyon Chiltepin is a rare and visually striking chiltepin that originates from Rock Coral Canyon in southern Arizona. This wild chile variety is notable for its small, round fruit, typically about the size of a pea. The peppers ripen from green to vibrant shades of orange and red, offering both visual appeal and intense heat.
Despite their small size, these peppers deliver potent spice and are prized for their clean, citrusy, smoky flavor notes. This variety is often collected and propagated by pepper enthusiasts due to its unique provenance, culinary value, and ecological significance.
The Rock Coral Canyon Chiltepin grows as a compact, shrub-like plant, typically adapted to rocky canyon habitats, thriving in hot, arid conditions with minimal water requirements. This pepper has also been a good growing variety in my hot and humid south MS garden.
